Have you heard of the U.S. agricultural census? Luxembourg had an equivalent. In January 1820, each commune was required to take a list of all the livestock in the district. The record included the type of livestock, where it was housed, who owned, and who was employing it. The instructions can be read in the previous year’s legislative memorial. This census has not been digitized, and it is unclear if copies still exist. I’d love to see it, if anyone knows more!
