Mappy Monday: Correctly identifying places in Luxembourg

Is it one town or two? One of the biggest challenges in working with Luxembourg records is determining the place where an event occurred. Spellings varied between French and German, which often means educated guesses are required to determine the correct location.

But what do you do if you’re stuck? Turns out the Institut Grand-Ducal offers some help! Their gazetteer outlines some of  the common variations.

If you need help reading either language, please contact me, and I’ll point you to an appropriate translator.
