Mystery Monday: What’s this man’s occupation?

My ongoing indexing of the 1843 census of Niederanven turned up another unexpected occupation…

The occupation on the first line is “tailleur d’habets”  – tailor of habits. Habit can mean clothing in general, but it more often refers to the “habit” or “vestments” of clergy.

In all likelihood, the family made clothing for the Catholic Church…
