Mappy Monday: Luxembourg’s geoportal

At first glance, topographical maps don’t seem to be that helpful. They list mountains, rivers, and lakes, but often don’t include street or town names. Yet, for genealogy research, they can be priceless hints to where a record might be held. Can’t find a record in your local town? The mountain range might tell you what direction to start looking, while the shading might hint at your ancestors’ choice of crops.

Luxembourg’s “Geoportal” offers a series of contemporary topographical maps, and a wonderful first choice for your research. Check out everything from crop patterns to population density.
